ASPPA/ASEA Webcast Series: Cash Balance Plans

The ASPPA/ASEA Cash Balance webcast series will consists of three, 50-minute webcasts with the following goals:

  • Introduce the concept of Cash Balance plans
  • Increase the knowledge, awareness, and benefits of Cash Balance plans
  • Address unique Cash Balance plan issues related to administration
  • Address administration process/concerns
  • Identify candidates for Cash Balance plans
  • Address sales process/concerns

 

Session 1 – Introduction to Cash Balance Plans

Original air date: Tues., Nov 1, 2022 


Target Audience: 
- Experienced TPA administrators/sales team members who wish to learn more about the basics of Cash Balance plan
- Business owners who are looking to expand their practice into the Cash Balance plan market

Content to be covered:
- Introduce the concept of Cash Balance plans
- Compare to DC plans (assume attendees reasonable familiar with DC/401k plans)
- Explain the requirements, pros/cons of Cash Balance plans, that they are usually combo with DC
- Show some examples of combo plans
- Touch lightly on admin issues
- Touch lightly on sales issues

Session 2 – Cash Balance Plan Sales Considerations

Target Audience:
- TPA business owners/sales team members who are looking to expand their practice into or already selling/marketing in the Cash Balance plan market.

Content to be covered:
- Identifying Cash Balance prospects
- How to present Cash Balance plans to prospects
- Communication Cash Balance issues to potential plan sponsors & their advisors
- Coordination among actuary/TPA/advisor/CPA

Session 3 – Cash Balance Plan Issues Related to Administrative/Funding/Investment Issues

Original air date: Tues., Nov 15, 2022 
 

Target audience:
- TPA administrators/business owners who are considering Cash Balance plans. This is a deeper dive into some unique administration and funding issues related to Cash Balance plans.

Content to be covered:
- Cash Balance admin issues that are different from Cash Balance (actuary, funding due date, Sched SB, PBGC)
- Combo plan issues – deductions, non-disc testing
- Funding requirements – due date, required contributions
- Investment issues – employer bears investment risk, slow/steady vs. shoot for the moon
