ACOPA Completes Brand Refresh

In late 2019, we announced an exciting brand refresh for our organization. We adopted a new name and look for the College of Pension Actuaries (ACOPA) — that respects our past and concentrates on our future, bringing into focus our core mission. Our new name is:

American Society of Enrolled Actuaries (ASEA)

ASEA

The Leadership Council initiated this brand refresh effort for several reasons.

  • Our new name more clearly reflects our core mission and allows us to better identify with our potential audience as the organization that is solely devoted to the needs of enrolled actuaries.
  • Many changes have occurred since ACOPA agreed to rejoin the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) in 2008, not the least of which was the establishment of the American Retirement Association as an umbrella organization over ASPPA, ACOPA and other sister organizations. Our new name allows us to better uniquely identify ourselves.
  1. Updated Operating Principles were voted upon on December 23, 2019. TA total of 25.81% of the eligible membership voted, 91% of whom approved the updated operating principles and the name change. There will be an additional round of changes to the operating principles later to make other adjustments (such as the outdated reference to the Joint Disciplinary Committee, and the disciplinary process).
  2. This brand refresh does not affect our core mission, the services we provide to members, the committee structures we currently use, or our relationship with ARA and ASPPA. Nor does it force current members to change the credentials they use to advertise their status as an MSPA or FSPA. If you are a member, you can opt to change your designations to MSEA or FSEA; otherwise, you will be grandfathered to use the current designations.  If you are a new member, you will use the new MSEA and FSEA designations. You and all other ASEA members will continue to receive the same quality education, networking, and advocacy opportunities we have always provided.
